Athletes in Action Track & Field
Projects 2012
India: 4 weeks from mid-May to mid-June
The South Asia Project is looking for 1-2 track and field coaches and a few athletes to go with them to lead the track and field portions of 3 different camps held in various regions of India. For the last 4 years, AIA has been running sports camps for basketball, volleyball, soccer and track and field and has worked with over 1000 college and university athletes. This is a co-ed team which needs all of the track disciplines represented. For more information look up South Asia Project at www.athletesinaction.org
Canary Islands: 2 to 3 weeks in July
This team will be traveling to the two main islands of the Canary Islands, Spain. Our team will be working in a variety of settings such as doing outreach at a half-marathon, connecting with youth club coaches and teams, and connecting and training with the Canary Federation team. There is a great need for athletes or coaches who can provide specific technique training in the field events and hurdles, but all event expertise are highly regarded and welcomed.
Zimbabwe: June 10-July 1
This team will be traveling to Harare, Zimbabwe to connect with athletes and coaches that are training/competing on the National, University, Club and High School levels. This is our second year sending a team to Zimbabwe. This is a co-ed team with all the track and field disciplines needed. Coaches are needed as well.
Togo: June 10-July 1
This team will travel to Togo to build relationships with track athletes and coaches as well as the Olympic Committee and minister of Sport. This co-ed team will need all of the track disciplines and especially could use some coaches in order to put on some coaching clinics.
Belgium: July 1-20
For the past two years we have taken competitive teams to Belgium to race in the Flander’s Cup Series. Our team will be looking to build relationships with our fellow competitors and starting open discussions concerning how to integrate one’s spiritual life into their sport. This co-ed team is open to all the track disciplines who have met the NCAA D1 Outdoor Regional Qualifying marks.
South Africa: July 13-August 1
This first year team will be travelling to Johannesburg, South Africa. We will connect with distance runners who are competing at a national level or provincial level. There are university sprinters, jumpers, and hammer throwers that we will meet and train with that have competed at the World Student Games. Our goal is to build relationships with the coaches and athletes at these levels and provide leadership development opportunities.
